How do I dial local, long distance, and international numbers?

Question

How do I dial local, long distance, and international numbers? Can I dial a 7-digit number for local calls?

Answer

By default, all US & Canada telephone numbers are to be callled using the following 10-digit structure:

        1 + <area code> + <telephone number>
International calls use the following standard structure:

        011 + <country code> + <telephone number>

It is also possible to dial a local telephone number using only a 7-digit telephone number, omitting the 1 + <area code>.  In order to make use of this feature, your telephone configuration in the Press 8 Communications Control Panel must have its external caller ID set with one of your public telephone numbers. The area code of this public telephone number is the area code that will get prefixed on 7-digit dialing. Please see below for a graphical outline of these steps:

1. Login to your Press 8 Communications Control Panel.

2. Select Telephones from your Features navigation menu.

3. Select the telephone you would like to make your selection with.

4. Set the value of Callerid of external calls to a public telephone number.

5. Click on Save to confirm your changes.

6. You're done! In this example, dialing 555-1212 would result in the 512 area code being prefixed to the telephone number.
