How do I configure Counterpath X-lite for Press 8?

Question

How do I configure the Counterpath X-lite soft phone for Press 8?

Answer

While this software telephone does not have any special requirements over other devices, the instructions provided below are specifically for X-lite for your convenience.

  1. Start by creating a new telephone extension for your soft phone. In your Press 8 control panel, navigate to the Features -> Telephone Lines menu, and add a new telephone. Alternately, if you'll be associating a new mailbox with this extension, you can use the Add User function, also found in the Features menu to create the telephone extension, mailbox, and a new control panel login in one step. Just be sure to save the telephone extension number and password you specify when adding the new extension.
  2. In X-Lite, Right click over the softphone image and open the SIP Account Settings from the menu list, and then select Add.
  3. On the Account tab, enter the following details:
  • Display Name - Your name goes here
  • User name - The 7-digit extension number created from step #1.
  • Password - The password created from step #1.
  • Authorized user name - leave blank
  • Domain - sip.press8.com
  • Domain Proxy - Check the "Register with...." box and select the 'proxy' radio button.  Enter 'sip.press8.com' for the address.
  1. Click on the Voicemail tab, and enter the following:
  • Number to dial for checking voicemail - *1
  1. (Optional, but recommended) Click on the Advanced tab, and enter the following:
  • Reregister every - 300 seconds
  1. Done! Press OK, and return the the main X-Lite phone image. The phone status should indicate Ready, at which time you can start placing and receiving telephone calls.

Note:  The softphone is best suited with a USB headset.  For a compatibility list of headsets, please navigate to the counterpath.com website here: support.counterpath.com/default.asp
