What is a hunt group and how can I set one up?

Question

What is a hunt group and how can I set one up?

Answer

Hunt groups allow more than one destination to ring at once. Within a hunt group, destinations are arranged into levels. All destinations within a level are rung at once. If none answer, they stop ringing, and all destinations in the next level are rung, and so on. A fail-over destination can be set as a last resort if the call does not get answered by any of the configured destinations.

To create a hunt group:

1. Login to your Press 8 Communications control panel.

2. Select the Hunt groups option in the Features navigation menu.

3. Select Add a new hunt group.

4. Here, you can configure your hunt group's general options and behaviour:

  • *Name - Enter a name for your hunt group.
  • Description - An optional description for your hunt group.
  • Ring each level for: - Specifies the number of seconds to dial the destinations in each level for.
  • Hunt type -
    • Linear - Always begin ringing destinations in level 1.
    • Smart Linear - Ring level that was last answered, then use linear.
    • Circular - Start at next level from previous call.
    • Smart Circular - Ring level that was last answered, then use circular.
  • Record group - If you've created any call recording groups and wish to record calls to this hunt group, enable it here.
  • If no destinations answer, forward to: - Here you can set the fail-over destination of your choice should the call not get answered.

5. Select the Save option. Now that the hunt group has been created, select the Add a destination option.

6. Set your destination options:

  • Level - Set the level for the new destination.
  • Destination - Choose an external telephone number or a local telephone extension as your hunt group destination.

7. Select the Save option.

8. You may continue to add multiple destinations until you are satisfied with your hunt group configuration.

You now have successfully created a new hunt group! Your new hunt group will now be available in any area of the Press 8 Communications control panel where a hunt group is supported, such as a property of a telephone extension for example.
